What is a commercial wall mural?

A commercial wall mural is large-format print applied to a wall the way a wall covering is. It reads as a single image from across the room, and the color and detail are the same edge to edge.

Murals, wall wraps and wall graphics are one family of work. A mural or wall wrap covers the wall edge to edge. Wall graphics also include the smaller pieces: logos, lettering, records boards and wayfinding. When the wall itself needs a new surface, wood, stone or metal, that is 3M DI-NOC; for a paste-hung finish, see wall coverings. Epic does, from file to finished wall. Murals are printed in-house at VisuFlare on 3M media, color-proofed against your brand standards, and installed by the same certified crews that install Epic’s window film.

One vendor means one schedule: no handoff between a print shop, a sign installer and a separate film contractor, and one team accountable for every seam and color. When a job also needs glass graphics, frosted privacy or 3M DI-NOC on the doors, the same crew does the whole elevation.

What is a commercial wall mural?

A large printed graphic installed on an interior wall of a business, school or public building: photography, illustration, pattern, a logo or a message, sized to the wall. Commercial murals are printed on wall media and applied like a wall covering, so they look the same edge to edge and can come down when it is time to change.

What is the difference between a wall mural, a wall wrap and wall graphics?

Mostly who is talking. Designers say mural or printed wall covering, sign shops say wall wrap, and facility teams say wall graphics. All three are large-format printed graphics on a wall. Wall graphics also covers smaller pieces such as logos, lettering, wayfinding and records boards. Epic designs, prints and installs all of them.

Can you design the mural, or do we need artwork?

Either works. Send finished artwork from your agency or brand team and Epic prepresses, proofs and installs it. Or bring a logo, a few photos and a brief, and Epic builds the design with you from measured elevations of your walls, with a rendering on your own photos before anything prints.

Where are Epic’s wall murals printed?

At VisuFlare, Epic’s sister large-format print studio next door to Epic headquarters in McKinney, Texas. Murals are printed on 3M media, proofed against your brand colors and installed by Epic crews, so design, print and install stay with one vendor on one schedule.

Will a printed mural stick to our block, brick or textured wall?

In most buildings, yes. The wall decides the media: 3M makes mural media for smooth drywall, lightly textured walls, block and brick. Before quoting a mural, Epic applies a test piece to your actual wall to confirm the media holds.

Are wall murals removable?

Interior graphics on 3M media come off without wall damage when it is time to change, which is why offices, schools and retailers use printed murals instead of paint for walls that will be refreshed.

What if we need a new wall surface, not a mural?

What drives the price of a custom wall mural?

Four things: the size of the wall, the 3M media the surface needs, how much prep the wall needs first, and whether Epic designs the artwork or your team supplies it.
